Scrambling

There are Late People and Not-Late People in the world. If you are a Late Person, you likely don’t even notice that there are Not-Late People all around you. But if you are a Not-Late Person, the Late People in your life might be driving you crazy this very moment. I am a Not-Late Person. I actually belong to a subset of this Group, known as Early Birds. I’m early to church, to coffee dates, to pickleball. I get to art shows at least an hour early, to open my booth and just be ready. I leave 20 minutes early when it’s a 10 minute drive. And so on.

But when it comes to my Newsletters… I am, as you all know, a Late Person. Sometimes a Really Late Person. And occasionally a So Late Never Made It Person. I cannot explain this anomaly. I enjoy writing these newsletters, and I love when they’re completed and out into your inboxes. But somehow, every month, I’m like what? it’s time already?! And then I’m scrambling. I’m (obviously) embarrassed about it, but I keep doing it. Send help.

So…are you a Late Person or a Not-Late Person?

p.s. Maybe I just need something to complain about. It used to be my photography of my work (still an issue, but got tired of moaning about it); now it’s my late newsletters? I will try for something more artsy next month. :D

I’m currently immersed in commissions, but I’m still catching you up on work completed over the last couple of months. Here are a few of them:

One More Memory, 24x48 inches, oil on canvas, SOLD.

Now In My Heart, 48x72 inches, oil on canvas, $6550. This painting looks SO much better in person (reference my perennial photography woes) and got a ton of attention at the last few shows of the summer after it debuted, but no one committed to it, so it’s heading to the Rental Sales Gallery next month! It’s on the softer side of the spectrum of my work, but still packs a punch. Check out this video clip for a glimpse of it IRL.

Collector Corner

Never Say Goodbye, Dance Forever, and Life Shines Gently, all 36x12 inches, oil on canvas, hanging in this Houston, TX, home…and a picture of me with the collectors, Quentin & Michele M.! I need to do this more often. :)

Another painting hanging in a Houston-area home, thanks to new collectors Blair & Jessica B. I really like the deep, rich hues in the setting that speak to those in the painting. All My Heart, 72x48 inches, oil on canvas.

The Journey

Above the mountains
the geese turn into
the light again

Painting their
black silhouettes
on an open sky.

Sometimes everything
has to be
inscribed across
the heavens

so you can find
the one line
already written
inside you.

Sometimes it takes
a great sky
to find that

first, bright
and indescribable
wedge of freedom
in your own heart.

Sometimes with
the bones of the black
sticks left when the fire
has gone out

someone has written
something new
in the ashes of your life.

You are not leaving.
Even as the light fades quickly now,
you are arriving.
